Learning Resources

School Resource Centre

Over the coming months and years I hope to develop a free teaching aid to show how using time travel can help with learning about history, science, astronomy, space travel etc.

Here are a couple of photos of volunteer Luke, dressed in a mock up of the first time travel suit as in Crystal Quest: Part 1)

Suited up and ready for a time burst…..what would you take with you on your journey? Where and what period would you travel to? How would you survive when you got there? What would happen if you could not return? Use your imagination to explore science and history. Use your imagination to create a fantastic story. Use your creativity to put your words down in writing!

An example of a full day’s free creative writing and charity sci-fi event in a school organised by Author David Johnson and Charity Sci-Fi organiser Ady Davies.

Stage 1: Three days before the event (Friday), David Johnson and Ady Davies supply the school with alien, UFO props and scientist equipment.
On the Monday several disguised teachers and volunteers mocked up a crashed UFO in the school playing field, being investigated by mysterious Government officials.

Stage 2: Children given time to think of ideas for story.

Stage 3: Main event several days later. Full day sci-fi event in the school

  • A) David Johnson delivers a series of creative writing sessions to pupils in the school library. Specifically tailored to the needs of the schools requirements.
  • B) Ady sets up a wide selection of classic sci-fi models and special effects demos in the main hall. All classes visit in planned sessions and have an opportunity to try out some TV props and ask questions.

Stage 4 several months after the event, David collects from the school the pupils completed story books and takes them home in order to read and pick a winner.

Stage 5 David awards a Crystal Quest T-shirt as a prize and gives specific feedback to each pupil.
